2007 - our 50th anniversary year IIn 1956, 3 pastors from the old Wenatchee Presbytery were leading a camp for Senior
Highers at the YMCA camp on Lake Wenatchee. Taking a drive up the White River tributary, they rounded a curve and found themselves in a valley of exquisite beauty. Three ridges of towering peaks glistened above wide green meadows. Finding a cluster of cabins from an old dude ranch, they exclaimed “what a place for a camp of our own! Massive cedars and firs suggested a name, and a vision was born. One year later, in the summer of 1957, the first group of 130 Presbyterian campers came to their new camp – Tall Timber Ranch! |

A Very Special PlaceConsider this unique and remarkable combination: |
|
| Tall Timber is owned property | ![]() |
| Many camps are on Forest Service leases. Tall Timber Ranch is debt free privately owned property. The original 133 acres was purchased in 1956 for a mere $20,000. An adjacent piece across the river was purchased in 1967, to create the current setting. | |
| Tall Timber has up-to-date, debt-free facilities and infrastructure | |
| Many camps are facing overwhelming debt burdens due to aging facilities and infrastructure. Tall Timber has avoided this by methodically making improvements. The completion of the new water system this year will bring all known infrastructure issues up to date. | |
| Tall Timber is safe from urban encroachment | |
| Many camps that started out in the country are now in the suburbs, with housing developments, schools and shopping areas expanding right up to camp boundaries. This will never happen to Tall Timber! Bordering the Glacier Peak Wilderness Area, it sits on the edge of the largest stretch of wilderness in the lower 48 states. | |
| Tall Timber – a remote yet accessible location! | |
| Even though Tall Timber feels like you are in the remote wilderness, it is only 2-3 hours drive from the Seattle area. You can reach it from anywhere in the state in an afternoon. Popular tourist town Leavenworth is nearby. Tall Timber is close, but still remote. A unique combination! | |
| Tall Timber – a truly remarkable setting! | |
| To top it all off, this unique location is in an amazingly stunning setting! The physical beauty of Tall Timber overwhelms the senses. Three ridges of towering peaks converge to form an amphitheater-like bowl, which rises above the wide green meadows. Two Wild and Scenic Rivers join on the property, which host two species of native salmon. Groves of giant cedar and fir dot the grounds. If you looked all over the country at camps, you would not find anywhere with a setting to rival Tall Timber Ranch! | |
| Christian Camping – A Very Special Ministry! |
![]() |
| Did you know that between 60-80% of committed Christians identify an experience at a camp, conference or retreat as a “turning point” event in their faith? Over half say this occurred before the age of 17, and helped shape their adult faith and values. If you were to pick one mission cause that has the most consistently effective impact, it would be Christian Camping. | |
| Strength for Today, Bright Hope for Tomorrow! |
|
| This year we celebrate the vision of those 50 years ago who dreamed Tall Timber into reality. And we also dare to dream ahead to the next 50 years, to meet current and future needs! | |
| Strength for Today | |
| In Phase One, we want to address some immediate needs: improve staff housing, build some storage sheds for equipment, rebuild the Othello A-frame cabin to match the Ephrata remodel, and relocate RV/Camping sites to a better location. Phase One projects will begin immediately; in fact several are already funded and under construction! |
|
| Bright Hope for Tomorrow | ![]() |
| In Phase Two, we plan to see the dream of improved family and adult facilities. A retreat lodge with rustic but comfy rooms and bath would be built in the brushy area between the main lodge and road. This will provide a level of facility in great demand at Tall Timber, and allow more adults, senior citizens, couples and those with special needs to utilize this beautiful place for worship, education and spiritual growth. The goal is for the Phase Two campaign to begin as soon as Phase One projects are funded and completed. | |
